When most people get up to speak they talk from the moment they are introduced to the second they sit down. Wall to wall talking. Ironically, it’s the pauses in your talk that get the most attention. Try it. Next time you’re speaking just take an extra long pause and watch what happens. Everyone looks up and starts paying attention. And, because they are more attentive, what you say next will be more firmly imprinted.
So, if you want to say something to really impress your audience (PAUSE) (PAUSE) (PAUSE) keep your mouth shut.
